Plunge waterfalls are usually like a silk belt falling high on the riverbed. The white water usually attracts most of the sights. However, not only the water but also the yellow rock background and the travertine terrace make up this whole beautiful picture. The amazing power of water cuts off the hard rock and deposits the flat terrace.

懸谷式的瀑布，總是像絲帶一樣從山谷懸掛而下。白色的水流加上落水的聲音，總讓遊客的目光集中在瀑布上。不過這張大峽谷的明信片，除了白色瀑布外，背景的片片黃石真讓大峽谷的偉大不言自明。再加上瀑潭旁的石灰華階地，真讓人讚嘆水的威力，既能切割岩石也能沉積岩石。

There are nature human heads everywhere in the world. They look up, look side, in the river, in the lake and at the beach. This shapely one in the Lake Superior with those trees crown looks sedate. If it were a real man, he must be a resolute chief.

自然中，到處都有被認做人臉的形象。有的橫臉看天，有的側臉看山，也有看河看海的，這個是看美洲最大的蘇必略湖。這張由已經改名為密西根自然資源部(舊稱保育部)發行的明信片，寫著白人給這塊山崖的名稱「印地安頭」。搭配著島上的高樹，看起來頗有威嚴。

When I got this postcard, I thought that they have the sea-like water view. But Foss family said they live in a small farming village of 400 people in the center of Wisconsin. I check their village. It is about 300 km from the lake shore. What a great country! I have been to Ontario but not Michigan. Michigan is the only Great Lake totally in USA. I think Wisconsin section lake shore must be a peaceful section.

當我收到這張時，我才想說這家人可以有像海景一樣的湖濱景緻。沒想到他信中就說他們住威斯康辛州中間一個四百多人的小農村。我查了一下那個村，離湖邊大概有三百公里吧！還真是個廣大的國家呀。我只有去過安大略湖，沒有去過密西根。密西根是唯一一個全部都在美國的五大湖。我想威斯康辛段的湖岸，應該是比較平靜的一段。

Ambiru went for the world tea expo in Atlanta. She stayed in the hotel in the postcard. This building is the CNN center, world headquarters of the Cable News Network. Atlanta is the capital of Georgia and a city in the south. I have not been there. But from Ambiru's description and some readings like Gone with the Wind, I think it must be a very traditional city.

安蒜君又去美國啦！這次是以商人身分去喬治亞州亞特蘭大參加世界茶博。這張明信片不是一般方形的造型，而是延著建築的邊緣剪出造型的。圖片是有線電視新聞網的世界總部，沒想到掌控媒體發聲的地方是在美國的南方都市。從安蒜君的明信片和從前閱讀《飄》這部小說，我想亞特蘭大這個辦過1996年奧運的都市，應該是個很傳統的地方才是。

Hsu studied in Denvor, Colorado, USA. He asked me to exchange postcards to him. Here is the return card from Michigan when he was on winter vacation visiting his friends. I can not remember how many postcards of university I got. But this one is surely artistic.

許Sorry從密西根跟我抱怨有些照片明信片假得有點虛偽，所以記了這張密西根大學安阿堡校區的繪畫風景給我。大學校院傳授知識，講究追求真理，不過如果以「寫真」來稱呼攝影，那麼又該怎麼看待那些讓人覺得虛假的作品呢？用繪畫來代表大學的形象，或許給人另一種朦朧或是僅展現學術殿堂的形象吧！

'The library is the heart of the university' is a clichés to all my fellow classmates. I do not want to discuss how important it is or where it should be located. Scholars are not sparing with money to build the library. Therefore, libraries are usually good representatives of universities. I guess every university which issues postcards at least has one of the library.

「圖書館是大學的心臟」對我們科系來說真是老生常談。我並不想討論圖書館到底有多重要還是到底該建在哪裡。只是學者們通常都不吝惜金錢來蓋藏書樓。蔡跟我說這是他們如皇宮般的圖書館。因此，圖書館常是大學的代表。我猜每間有出明信片的大學，至少應該都會有一張圖書館的吧。

Most of us graduated this year. Before going back to hometown, Miss Ambiru went to the states to learn something to help herself to run business in Japan. She greeted me with her ambition. Now she is a seccessful mother.
