An old sailor or a captain travelled many countries. He must have many stories to tell. How do we keep their stories? Yes, a museum. Where to set up the museum? Yes, a shipwreck. What a lovely idea to set a museum in a shipwreck. I’d love to visit this ship if I got the chance to visit New Zealand.

Alone on the Country Road /

Those pictures with a person strolling on a country road usually remind most Taiwanese their first English poem, the Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. No matter which road we take, we can appreciate the view. Even there is no scenery, we still can enjoy the time of being alone. For that popular road, we have the same happiness of common. For the road not so popular, we have our own special experience. After understanding this, it will not be that difficult to make the choice at the intersection.

Let's review the poem:

Two road diverged in a yellow wood.
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doublted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

There are more Europeans and Americans than Asians on Postcrossing. I do not expect that I can receive postcard from Asian country that soon. The first five come in a batch. So this one is actually the second batch. Philippines is our neighbour country in the south but which is unfamiliar to us. In fact, Taiwanese education teach us so little about our neighbours. Many people do not know that Philippines speak Tagalog and other local language as Indigenous Taiwanese in Austronesian group. Philippines must also be a cultured country worthy to visit.

Jack told me that there is a windmill in his village, but not this one in the postcard. They tried to recover that old mill and set up a website to record everything about it. No matter what purpose of the windmill in the Netherlands was, and how efficiency the old fellow was, recovering them had more historical meaning than practical use. I believe I will get other windmill from the Netherlands in the future, but this is a good story.

Sandra lives in the mountain with lots of pets. So she sent this mountain view postcard. The view is beautiful and looks still. However, it also seems too peaceful. I wonder what in the postcard is the the true image of Switzerland or it is just a small part of Switzerland.

Finland had most participants in postcrossing. Not surprising there came one from a Finlander in the first batch. It came from a small town in Finland, but the picture was the Opera House in Helsinki. I felt beautiful of this painting art of the beautiful architecture containing performing art inside.

This was my first postcrossing postcard. Actually, it came in a batch of five postcards. I picked it up as my first to register because I though there must be variuos stories in the old Cathedral. Some people believed these religious places could bring luck and peace to them. So do I. Happy postcrossing to every postcrosser.

This old house is on my neighbour island in Penghu. It is in an heritage village and is lasting for over two hundred years. The day when I left Penghu and back to Taipei was the first day of cross strait flight normalised day. The relationship between Taiwan and China is changing. Maybe it is not new to this old house. It has looked so many changes and still stands there. The world keeps changing. I also discharge from the military and can not back to the never land.

This is the only postcard I got in the military in Penghu. Lu served in the president hall of R.O.C., so he got the chance to have any mail to have the president hall postmark. He was interested in sending mail with the mark. I asked for one postcard from him and got this ad-card. What a gift! Nothing relates to the president! Well, I do not think the president can go shopping in the bookstore. How does he buy new book and what  does he read?

Lin and I went to the same university. But we did not know each other untill 2006. I met her in Canberra, Australia, where the name of the place means 'meeting place' in Australian Aboriginals' language. She was the student in college of management and joined the financial world after graduated. She went to Switzerland for a training program and met a guy comes from the school in Australia which I studied in. I think Switzerland is a country that people meet here very peacefully.

Hokkaido is a place not like Kansai where contains so much traditional culture. I have little impression of it but Sapporo Snow Festival. CHEN went a tour on cycle with bicycle members. Hokkaido does not sound like a place for grand tour to me. But it a good opportunity to expand their view. The lavender field and the white clouds are colourful. There must be some big cities in Hokkaido, but the impression of Hokkaido must be countryside to most of Japanese.

Ambiru went for the world tea expo in Atlanta. She stayed in the hotel in the postcard. This building is the CNN center, world headquarters of the Cable News Network. Atlanta is the capital of Georgia and a city in the south. I have not been there. But from Ambiru's description and some readings like Gone with the Wind, I think it must be a very traditional city.

There is only one sentence in the left postcard. 'Hello. I am at Qinghai Lake, feeling cold, and it is raining.' What a good expression. Short but strong.
The second one of the Potala Palace is a complaining postcard. All postcards before from Tibet are sharing their joy, but this one is telling me the pain of plateau life. Well, the cliché is 'no pain, no gain!'

Japan was not a travel destination to me but other people. Mao planned to go to Kansai during her busy study. I ordered a geisha postcard and she made it. Japanese traditional culture is fascinating. If I had the chance to go to Japan, I would go to Kansai first.

Postcards with postage sold by the post office are usually the cheapest you can find. I only  bought this one in Australian post office. I decided to use it when I was in Lifou, New Caledonia and posted it on the last day in Australia. It made me feel I was still in Sydney after I have came back to Taiwan for a week. But a few weeks later, It changed to remind me I was not in Sydney anymore. Goodbye Sydney.

26/1 2007 4:45

I used an international trip to end up my one year Australia stay. I do not know was it a good idea or not. Because these French Pacific islands were so great. I had a very good time there. The blue sky and sea were stunning and very impressive. Maybe too impressive, and made me have less Australia memory now.

Look at all these blue postcards. Are they like paradise?
Most of exchage students in Australia go to New Zealand, Fiji, or Indonesia for international travel. I made a different decision, New Caledonia. I checked the tourism statistics of New Caledonia 2005. There were only 16 people holding Taiwanese passport visiting NC. It sounded like a secret place on Earth to Taiwanese. When I saw the scenery, I realised there is a place postcard-like. I could not upload my pictures to share with friends, so I sent them postcards. I was also afraid of my bad photography skill, so I took pictures of those postcards. Here are them.

This is the ticket for the scenic spot of Badaling Section of the Great Wall of China. There is a saying, 'he who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true man.' Chang visited Chen in Beijing and went to the Great Wall together during Christmas holidays. Here is the evidence.
